Protecting Public Pensions

Lisa Willner believes that we must protect our public pensions. She strongly opposes Governor Bevin’s pension plan and Senate Bill 1. Lisa believes we should fulfill our commitment to firefighters, police, other first responders, teachers, and state workers. Lisa supports tax re-structuring and finding alternative revenue sources such as clean technologies, casino gaming, and legalized medical marijuana. Lisa will support legislation that protects public pensions and does not cut benefits.

Fully Investing in Education

As an elected member of the Jefferson County School Board, Lisa Willner has been a champion for our children and our schools. Lisa believes we must have safe and engaging classrooms across Jefferson County, with adequate resources to meet student needs. Lisa Willner’s education plan puts children first. She opposes charter schools and all other efforts to undermine Kentucky’s public schools. Lisa has been strongly endorsed by the Jefferson County Teachers Association because of her advocacy for our children and our teachers. She has been vocal and public in her rejection of SCALA’s agenda for state takeover of JCPS, and believes we must stand up for local democracy and preserve our locally elected school board. Lisa will sponsor legislation for fair and equitable public school funding.

Protecting Healthcare for Kentuckians

Lisa Willner believes healthcare is a right for every Kentuckian, not a privilege for a few. She supports universal single-payer healthcare at the federal level. In Frankfort, she supports legislation and policies that will protect Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act in Kentucky. As our State Representative, Lisa will fight every day to stop those who are creating barriers to healthcare for our children, seniors, and families. Lisa will stand up for Medicaid, KCHIP, and the Affordable Care Act.

Creating Jobs

Creating jobs starts with a strong workforce. That’s why Lisa supports industry certification and dual credit at the high school level. A skilled workforce will attract new industries to our district. Lisa is for raising the minimum wage, as she did as a board member for JCPS. She believes we should cut government red tape that hurts our small businesses. She has a strong commitment to working families and will sponsor legislation that will help create good-paying jobs. Lisa will sponsor legislation that ensures that any company receiving tax incentives must abide by family-friendly policies, provide worker benefits, and pay their employees a living wage. Lisa will examine past tax incentives to be sure they are creating the jobs they committed to. Lisa will sponsor legislation that demands equal pay for equal work.

Protecting our Seniors

Lisa supports legislation that cracks down on senior abuse. She will protect state funding for our senior homes and ensure that the seniors are getting the care they deserve. She will also fight to allow seniors the right to stay in their homes. Lisa will be a strong voice for our seniors.

Early Childhood

As someone who has taught content in child development for years, Lisa believes that investing in early childhood programming pays dividends for our future. Lisa Willner supports full funding for high quality pre-school and full-day Kindergarten. Lisa will support increasing childcare and preschool subsidies for families at 200% of the federal poverty level.

School Safety

Lisa Willner believes guns have no place in our schools. She will not seek the NRA’s endorsement. Instead of turning our schools into prisons, she believes we must instead make sure our children feel safe and connected. After the shooting in Marshall County, Lisa felt compelled to help. She worked closely with Marshall County Representative Will Coursey to write comprehensive school safety legislation that has been praised by education advocates, law enforcement, school safety experts, and mental health professionals across the state. House Bill 604 increases school safety, mental health access, and support for hardworking teachers and school staff. Lisa will continue to push for legislation that keeps our children safe.

Supporting Higher Education

Lisa Willner supports higher education, career and technical training, and our community colleges. She supports a ban on predatory lending on college campuses and believes that everyone should have the opportunity to attend a community college, a public university, or pursue industry certifications. Lisa supports making college more affordable and believes that the legislature must live up to its commitment to fully fund public higher education. Lisa opposes Governor Bevin’s and Republicans’ plan for our public universities. Lisa will support KEES funding and oppose any reductions to the program.

A Strong Voice for Working Families

Lisa Willner strongly believes we must expand economic opportunities and create good paying jobs. She has been endorsed by AFSCME 4011 because of her strong commitment to working families. Lisa Willner’s jobs plan includes stopping government subsidies to corporations unless they pay a living and fair wage to their employees. She strongly supports our small businesses and wants to raise the minimum wage. She strongly opposes “Right to Work for Less,” and the cynical Republican war on working families. Lisa will be a voice and stand up when Republican extremists try to roll back worker protections. She strongly supports prevailing wage because it helps working families receive fair wages. Lisa will support legislation for prevailing wage. Lisa will work to reverse the Right to Work (for less) legislation that extremist Republicans jammed through.

Standing Up for Mental Health

As a licensed psychologist, Lisa Willner knows how important good mental health is for all of us. She will create and support legislation that enforces parity/equality for mental health with physical health, removes barriers to integrated care, and assures the stability of our public safety net, the community mental health centers. Lisa will work in Frankfort to educate her fellow legislators and policy-makers on the importance of programs to support our children at home and in school to develop positive mental health. Lisa will get behind legislation that includes mental health in Kentucky’s health care policies and she will support increasing access to mental health services for all.

Keeping our Families Safe

Lisa Willner is a strong supporter of criminal justice reform, restorative justice, and believes we must improve the judicial system. She opposes private prisons and believes in a crime victim’s bill of rights. Lisa will support legislation that protect families of first responders who are killed in the line of duty.

Tackling the Opioid Epidemic

Lisa Willner believes that we must find solutions to the major opioid epidemic. She will push for legislation that funds treatment and rehabilitation centers. Lisa believes we must deal with the root causes including overprescribing and undiagnosed mental illness. Lisa will work with State Representative Joni Jenkins and others who have been on the forefront of tackling this major epidemic. Lisa will demand that we bring law enforcement, mental health professionals, and national experts to the table to find comprehensive solutions to the epidemic.

Preserving our Environment

Lisa Willner believes that we must recognize environmental protection as a public health issue, and adopt a clean energy economy. Lisa opposes policies that limit environmental protections. She strongly believes we must adopt stricter regulations on the extraction of fossil fuels and stop subsidies that are being awarded to the fossil-fuel industries. Lisa believes we need to establish training programs to transition workers from traditional coal to clean energy jobs, especially in energy efficiency and solar power. We need to increase state support of public transportation. Lisa will fight for clean air, clean water, and protect our natural resources.

Changing the Culture in Frankfort

Lisa Willner supports stronger sexual harassment laws at the state capitol, and she strongly believes in strengthening Kentucky ethics laws. We must work to find common ground in order to move our state and its people forward. Lisa believes in transparency and will demand that government officials play by the rules.
